Cover of the first single of SOLO (Aventino Music Avant-Garde, 2025)
On September 3, 2025, the first single from “SOLO” was released on all digital music platforms. Here’s a quick preview!
On September 3, 2025, the first single from my latest album SOLO was released by the Italian label Aventino Music Avant-Garde. Recorded by Sixto Cámara at the Auditori Josep Carreras in Vilaseca (Catalunya) in February of the same year, the album is presented in an EP format. It features four solo works—two by women and two by men—three of which are premiere recordings.
The piece chosen for this first single was Three Latin Prayers by Giacinto Scelsi (1905–1988). My search for works by Scelsi that could be performed on the baritone saxophone led me to this musical gem. At first, I was surprised by the apparent simplicity of the lines. This piece holds a deep expressiveness based on the purity of sound and the simplicity of a cantus firmus. Could I have recorded another work closer to the style of this composer? Yes. I found one that I liked very much, but I will maybe record it later, if I find the opportunity.
In the Repertoire section of my blog, you can find an earlier commentary on Three Latin Prayers. However, the label’s director, Claudio Scozzafava, asked me to write a different text for his blog Webnoises. He wanted a new approach, more personal and less technical. So, on the same day as the digital release, that new article was also published. Click here to read it.
Finally, I’d like to thank Claudio for his thoughtfulness in publishing it also in Catalan, my main language.
I hope you enjoy it—and that you feel inspired to discover the music of Giacinto Scelsi, a truly fascinating composer.
