Cover of the second single of SOLO (Aventino Music Avant-Garde, 2025)
On October 16, 2025, the second single from “SOLO” was released on all digital music platforms. Let me tell you more about it!
On October 16, 2025, the second single from my album SOLO came out, released by Aventino Music Avant-Garde. Sixto Cámara did an excellent job, making the most of the amazing acoustics of the Auditori Josep Carreras in Vilaseca (Catalunya). Honestly, it is such a pleasure to work under such conditions. That morning of February 14, 2025, we worked hard and well.
Quasi uno Specchio by Spanish woman composer Isabel Benito (Santander, 1981) is one of the three premiere recordings on the EP. This short piece is the one that most fully explores the baritone saxophone’s timbral richness on the album. Isabel beautifully describes her creative process in a detailed article on the Webnoises blog.
As I’ve said many times, the piece was born during a reading session of the Composition and Sound Experimentation Course at the Mixtur Festival in Barcelona, back in April 2018. We performers today are lucky to know first-hand the intentions of the composers they work with. With just an email, a call, or a video chat, you can clear up doubts and discuss the more personal aspects too. So why are we still, generally speaking, so reluctant to play more contemporary music? I’ll go further: the curiosity of younger composers often leads me to discover more techniques and possibilities than those I learned as a student… Actually, one never really stops studying and learning.
Just as he did with Scelsi, Claudio Scozzafava asked me for a more personal comment on Quasi uno Specchio. So, on the same day as the digital release, a new commentary was also published (in Catalan again… grazie mille, Claudio!).

By the way, you can purchase the score of Quasi uno Specchio at this link. Whether you play the baritone saxophone or any other instrument (or simply enjoy graphic scores), I highly recommend checking it out. It’s a fascinating piece! I think Aventino Music had a great idea in recording the work and publishing the score at the same time.
